Health benefits
More than 6,000 years of human experience, as well as modern research, indicate that olive oil is good for your health. Indeed, olive oil has been singled out as a key contributor to the health of centenarians in the Mediterranean.

Olive oil is a natural anti-oxidant that slows down the natural ageing process.

Olive oil is almost unique amongst oils because it can be consumed in its crude form without refining. Leaving the oil unrefined has the benefit of conserving its vitamins, essential fatty acids, antioxidants and other nutrients. The powerful antioxidants in real extra virgin olive oil are beneficial to health and protect us from damage caused by free radical oxidation, which may accelerate the ageing process and contribute to the onset of several diseases, such as heart disease and cancer.

Olive oil, which is very low in saturated fats (a major factor in heart disease) and rich in monounsaturated fats, reduces the risk of heart disease by lowering LDL (bad) cholesterol which contributes to the build-up of fatty deposits in the arteries. In turn, it leaves HDL (good) cholesterol which actually works to remove any build-up of fatty deposits in the arteries.

Olive oil is recognised as important in maintaining the metabolism and it contributes to the development of the brain and bones in children. It is also recommended as a source of vitamin E for older people. In addition, it slows down the over-production of acid in the digestive system, so diminishing the potential for ulcers and other gastro-intestinal problems.
